Micromon
Micromon is the commercial services unit of the Department of Microbiology, a member of the School of Biomedical Sciences . Located in the Monash Biomedical Sciences Precinct, it was established in the mid 1980's as the Microbial Biotechnology and Diagnostic Unit to utilise the department's academic and technical expertise in a commercial service venture. The unit now specialises in premium, high quality DNA technologies where long-read DNA Sequencing and Next-Generation Sequencing are the core facilities of the unit. Micromon also offers Covaris closed-tube focussed acoustic shearing of DNA, cells and tissues. These core activities are supported by a small-scale Oligonucleotide Synthesis service specialising in fast turnaround of ultrastable and long oligomers. The unit also offers a range of Microarray instrumentation for hands-on research use. Micromon has established nation-wide recognition for its professional Recombinant DNA techniques training course. In addition, we conduct classical microbial testing covering a range of applications including materials analysis and air-conditioning water towers. We can supply a range of standard microbial growth media and cultures and have the facility to supply high quality Formvar Carbon-coated Electron Microscopy grids.
